Jackson totally cocked it up I'm afraid and what is good about the novel got lost among all the CGI. A shame because the novel has some strong points.BRENThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15953231992674091002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872225494241033745.post-36006495672815550892011-11-10T07:11:18.678-08:002011-11-10T07:11:18.678-08:00After I saw the film, I thought that if that sucke...After I saw the film, I thought that if that sucked, then the source material has to be almost worse but to be honest I've been wanting to take a look at this lately. There is just something I can't quite define that makes it a dificult book to totally engage in.
Jackson absolute stuffed up a good chance to make a good film. I think the novel a good story but the way he turned it into a CGI fest missed the whole point of the family's grief and how they dealt with it.
But you are right it is a decent watch although nothing memorable. I certainly didn't see why the use of CGI was neccessary as there was nothing in the book to warrant it.
Oh well!!
Book reviews aren't easy to write!! I have read far more books than I have reviwed this year.BRENThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15953231992674091002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872225494241033745.post-23458708599234702932011-10-30T10:05:11.966-07:002011-10-30T10:05:11.966-07:00I quite liked The Lovely Bones but it is very much...I quite liked The Lovely Bones but it is very much a book I read once and will never read again. I don't really rate Alice Sebold and her other book Almost Moon was so bad I couldn't even finish it.

The Lovely Bones was about the Salmon family and how they coped with grief not an excuse to show off his effects company. It was far too much and nothing like what I imagined when I read the book

Peter Jackson sacrificed an opportunity for decent storytelling in favour for an over abundance of CGI.

I saw the film in the cinema at the time and it was a good watch although not memorable. I caught it on tv again quite recently and it holds up very well although, again, completely unmemorable which in fairness is exactly the same as the book.

Brilliant write up though - I have promised a friend I will review her novel and I know I will struggle to review a book

K :-)Karinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06675872174982961589noreply@blogger.com
